Ye Olde Goat Cart Microenterprise Grant award for goat/work shed

Ye Olde Goat Cart is extremely excited to announce plans for a major expansion to our business, thanks to the New York State Microenterprise Assistance Program grant administered through the Village of Groton. We have been awarded a $9,000 grant to purchase a shed on our property, which will double as a soap making workshop and barn for two Nigerian Dwarf goats.

Meet Rosemary & Lavender, our two new goats who will be supplying us with fresh milk for our soaps and lotions! Our goats will live in the shed we will purchase through the grant we were awarded.

This is a huge expansion for our business! Having a soap workshop will allow us to increase our soap making capacity, with more space to work, more storage for raw materials, and more space to cure our soaps, which take six weeks to cure. We have also purchased two sweet little doelings from Cabin Creek Minis (also in Groton!) who will become our primary supplier of our top ingredient- the wonderful, skin loving goat’s milk! We are very excited to be able to offer products with our own goat’s milk, which will allow us to control every aspect of this most important ingredient from start to finish.

The shed will take about six weeks to be manufactured and will then be delivered in late September. In the mean time, our two goats, which we are naming Rosemary and Lavender, should be joining us within the week. We are looking forward to spending the next six weeks getting to know our girls and sharing them with you! You can read a bit more about our goats on our ‘Staff‘ page. Expect lots of cute goat pictures in the coming weeks, especially on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. If you haven’t followed us yet, now is a great time to do so, as we will be posting many ‘behind the scenes’ looks as we go through this project.

We would also like to thank the Village of Groton, New York State Homes and Community Renewal, and the Community Development block Grant Program for awarding our business this grant and opportunity.
